Texas Stole Our Hearts

Okay well maybe not so much Texas as people in Texas.  Okay not all people in Texas just a certain little family.  Almost a year ago now our oldest son and his family relocated to New Braunfels Texas.  If you follow our Journeys you know we have made several trips already.  This one was different I guess in large part due to the amount of time we were there.  All in all we were gone a total of 13 days.  We left on Thursday evening just before Father’s day.  Our granddaughters along with the help our of daughter in law were taking our son camping and fishing for the Father’s day weekend.  Unbeknownst to our son Chris, I had been in secret contact with his wife about where they were going.  So Friday evening we rolled into camp a few short hours after they arrived!  Chris knew we were coming but thought after the weekend when he returned home.  So we managed to pull off a small bit of a surprise.

We left as I said on Thursday evening and drove to our usual Walmart parking lot in Deming New Mexico.  We used to stop here because Tracey’s Aunt Genie lived here and we could visit with her.  She has since moved to Chandler right near us but we still stop at the Walmart.  Walmart is so kind to allow us to park free of charge in their parking lots (well most of them!) We arrived and found a parking spot, not too hard this time as the big rig area was empty except for one trucker.  We walked the dogs, yes all three dogs are with us this trip! We spent some time trying to get the satellite to work without much luck, and just called it a night.

Up bright and early Friday morning , walked the dogs, made our smoothies and headed to the gas station.  Once we filled up we were on the road again.  We stop pretty regularly to walk the dogs and just let them stretch their little legs and move around.  Well you know 38 feet of RV and they must lay on my feet, by my feet, in my lap, in my seat with me, or between Tracey and I on the floor.  Sure makes for getting out the door when we stop a pain the ………. Neck.

Rachel has texted us a few times and one text gave us our camp spot number and a map of the campground.  We are none the wiser but during these texts at some point Rachel let it slip and now Chris knew we were coming.  But that is okay it was still a wonderful feeling pulling up and seeing them all sitting outside, like they were waiting for us! We stop to unhook our jeep and the girls come a running full speed right into our arms.  Not that is unconditional love.  After the hugging stops, they load in the jeep with me while Tracey backs the RV into our spot, like a champ.  I park the jeep in front of the RV and we proceed to get all set up, putting jacks down, slides out, hooking up water, sewer and electric.  Get the AC going to cool things down and then walk the dogs.  We put the dogs back inside and join the gang under their awning for a beer and some burgers.  We brought the girls their very own picnic table and benches and they are excited to sit and eat.  We enjoy a great meal thanks to Chris and Rachel, then the girls are off to bed while we sit outside and visit for a bit longer.  It isn’t long and we are all calling it a night, end of day one.
