South Dakota was more than just a stop along the way—it was the destination. We set out with a specific goal in mind: experiencing Mount Rushmore together for the first time. While each of us had visited before on separate trips, this was our first opportunity to explore South Dakota as a couple. What we discovered was a state that offers far more than one iconic landmark. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the dramatic landscapes, sweeping views, and rich history that seem to be woven into every corner of the state.
We were fortunate to enjoy beautiful weather during our visit and were even treated to a welcome rainstorm that made the experience even more memorable. One of the highlights of the trip was spending a day sightseeing with friends from Arizona who had relocated to South Dakota. Sharing the adventure with them added a special touch to an already unforgettable journey. The abundant wildlife in Custer State Park left us in awe, providing some of our favorite memories from the trip. Although we’ve only visited South Dakota once together, it made a lasting impression. Between its natural beauty, fascinating history, and remarkable wildlife, it’s a state we hope to explore even more in the future.
