Why We Stayed Here
As we mentioned in our recent Las Vegas trip story, we ended up staying at Desert Rose Resort because we had timeshare points that were about to expire. Rather than let them go to waste, we decided to put them to good use.
This wasn’t our first stay here. In fact, we’ve visited several times over the years because it’s part of our timeshare network.
Is It Really a Resort?
Let’s start with one important point.
Calling the Desert Rose a “resort” might be a bit of a stretch.
When we think of a resort, we picture upscale accommodations, multiple restaurants, attentive pool service, luxurious amenities, and a little bit of pampering. Maybe we’re spoiled, but that’s our expectation.
Desert Rose is more of a comfortable condominium-style property than what we’d consider a true resort.
The Rooms
The property itself is showing its age. We remember staying here years ago when they were in the middle of renovating and updating the rooms. That must have been quite some time ago because today the rooms are once again looking tired and ready for another refresh.
Our two-bedroom suite provided plenty of room for the two of us, but we think it would have felt a little cramped with four adults. The master bedroom was comfortable, but the attached bathroom was extremely small. Once inside, there was barely enough room to close the door, the vanity offered almost no counter space, and getting ready each morning took a little creativity.
Unfortunately, our particular room also came with an unexpected annoyance.
We were on the ground floor next to a pedestrian entrance gate. Every time someone entered or exited, the gate slammed shut, shaking the wall of our unit. It wasn’t a deal breaker, but it certainly wasn’t relaxing.
Amenities & Service
There were, however, a few pleasant surprises.
The pool area, while not especially large, was clean, inviting, and never overcrowded during our stay. We had no trouble finding lounge chairs, and everyone using the pool was friendly and respectful.
One afternoon, a staff member came out and surprised everyone by handing out complimentary ice cream sundaes around the pool. It was a small gesture, but on a hot Las Vegas afternoon it was a thoughtful touch that definitely earned a smile.
There is also a small lobby bar, although during our stay it was sometimes difficult to find anyone tending it.
Being a timeshare property, don’t be surprised if you’re invited to attend a sales presentation. Like most timeshares, they’ll often sweeten the offer with complimentary gifts or other incentives. We politely declined and enjoyed the rest of our vacation.
Location
Perhaps Desert Rose’s biggest advantage is its location.
Situated just off the Las Vegas Strip near the MGM, it’s close enough to walk to many attractions, and catching an Uber is quick, easy, and inexpensive.
Would We Stay Again?
So, would we stay here again?
If we were paying cash and looking for a true Las Vegas resort experience, we’d probably choose somewhere else.
If we had timeshare points to use, wanted a safe, convenient place to stay, or simply needed a comfortable home base while exploring the city, we wouldn’t hesitate to return.
Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
