A Wedding, A Reunion, and a Trip Down Memory Lane Chapter 3

A Wedding, A Reunion, and a Trip Down Memory Lane Chapter 3

Chapter 3: A Beautiful Beginning

Wedding Day Has Arrived

There is something special about waking up on wedding day.

The excitement in the house is different.

There’s a quiet energy as everyone begins preparing for one of life’s biggest celebrations.

Coffee is poured.

Garment bags are unzipped.

Shoes are lined up.

Someone is looking for cufflinks.

Someone else can’t remember where they put their earrings.

And somehow, despite all the planning…

Everything comes together.

After a leisurely breakfast and a few final conversations around the kitchen table, everyone headed off to get ready.

The day we’d traveled across the country for had finally arrived.

A Friendship That Has Stood the Test of Time

As I watched Colleen prepare for her wedding, I couldn’t help but reflect on just how long we’d known each other.

We’ve been friends since we were three years old.

We’ve watched each other grow up.

Celebrate birthdays.

Graduate.

Experience life’s joys.

Navigate life’s heartbreaks.

Stand beside one another through seasons that were easy…

…and seasons that weren’t.

Three years earlier, Colleen had stood beside us in Puerto Peñasco as Tracey and I exchanged our vows on the beach.

Now we had the privilege of witnessing as she began this new chapter with Kelly.

Life has a beautiful way of bringing moments full circle.

A Perfect Day to Say “I Do”

The ceremony was beautiful.

Not because it was extravagant.

Not because everything went perfectly.

It was beautiful because it reflected exactly who Colleen and Kelly are.

Warm.

Joyful.

Authentic.

You could see it in the smiles on their faces.

You could hear it in the laughter shared between family and friends.

Most of all, you could feel the love that surrounded them.

Those are the weddings people remember.

Surrounded by Friends

One of the unexpected blessings of weddings is reconnecting with people you haven’t seen in years.

Conversations seem to pick up exactly where they left off.

Old stories get retold.

New stories are shared.

Before long, everyone is laughing as though no time has passed at all.

Travel has taken us to some incredible places over the years.

But moments like these remind us that people will always be our favorite destination.

A Celebration Worth Remembering

After the ceremony came an evening filled with wonderful food, music, dancing, and conversation.

The dance floor stayed busy.

Glasses were raised.

Toasts were shared.

Smiles never seemed to disappear.

Everywhere we looked there were hugs, laughter, and photographs capturing memories that would last a lifetime.

Watching two people so deeply in love celebrate with those closest to them is something truly special.

We felt honored simply to be there.

Time to Say Goodbye

As wonderful as the weekend had been, eventually it was time to head home.

Goodbyes are never easy.

Especially when they’re with people who have been part of your life for decades.

There were hugs.

Promises not to let so much time pass before seeing one another again.

The familiar…

“We really need to do this more often.”

As we pulled away from the house, I found myself looking back one last time.

Not because I was sad the trip was ending.

But because I was grateful it happened.

What This Trip Really Gave Us

Looking back, this journey wasn’t really about Pennsylvania.

It wasn’t about rental cars.

Airplanes.

Wineries.

Or even the wedding itself.

It was about friendship…It was about family.

It was about making the time to show up for the people who have shown up for you throughout your life.

Sometimes the greatest gift we can give someone isn’t wrapped in paper.

It’s our presence.

This weekend reminded us of that in the very best way.

Until the Next Adventure

Every journey leaves us with something.

Sometimes it’s photographs….Sometimes it’s souvenirs.

Sometimes it’s a favorite restaurant we’ll return to one day.

This trip left us with something even better.

A renewed appreciation for lifelong friendships.

A weekend filled with laughter.

A beautiful wedding we’ll never forget.

And another reminder that life is far too short to wait for the “perfect” time to visit the people you love.

Congratulations, Colleen and Kelly.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of such a beautiful beginning.

May your greatest adventures always be the ones you share together.

The End… and the Beginning of Another Journey

Every trip eventually comes to an end.

But every friendship continues the journey.

We can’t wait until our paths cross again.
