Retirement Travel Update – Spring 2026

Retirement…So Far, So Good

Well, retirement is still holding! I have been asked to volunteer a couple of times. If you know my story, you know that I hesitated before agreeing to volunteer. It seems every time I volunteer, it somehow turns into a full-time job! So, for now, I’m doing my best to protect this new season of life and enjoy the freedom we’ve worked so hard to achieve. Here is the latest retirement travel update, or lack of travel update if you prefer.

Waiting for the Next Adventure

At the moment, we’re in a bit of a holding pattern when it comes to travel. Tracey has a few commitments that require us to stay close to home, so our adventures have been temporarily put on pause. If we’re being honest, I think we’re both getting a little restless. It certainly doesn’t help that Arizona’s summer heat has arrived with a vengeance.

We did manage to “sneak away” for a few days to visit our daughter in Charleston, South Carolina. Our first visit was spent helping her move, so we didn’t have much time to explore. This trip was different. We finally had the opportunity to enjoy the beauty and history of Charleston, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. The hardest part, as always, was leaving our daughter behind. Yes, we know she’s an adult…but she’s also our youngest, and that never really changes.

Keeping Busy at Home

Until we’re back on the road, we’ve been keeping ourselves busy with projects around the house and crossing a few long-overdue items off our to-do lists. I’ve been tossing around ideas for revamping the JourneyFor2 website, while Tracey has been spending time with his brother tackling vehicle repairs and upgrades.

We’ve also started simplifying our lives a bit. We recently sold our RZR and Tracey’s hunting trailer. Tracey helped his brother repair and update his RV before it sold, and now they’re working on getting his Rhino ready for its next owner. It’s funny how retirement changes your priorities. Things that once filled our weekends no longer fit the life we’re building, and it feels good to let someone else enjoy them.

A Quick Trip to Las Vegas

Before June comes to an end, we’re planning a quick getaway to Las Vegas. We realized we had some timeshare points that needed to be used before they expired, and that sounded like the perfect excuse for a little adventure.

Now the question is…

Any takers?

Looking Ahead

Once we roll into July, we’re hoping Tracey’s commitments will be wrapped up so we can finally escape the Arizona heat. Our first stop will most likely be Texas. It’s been far too long since we’ve hugged our granddaughters, and that alone is reason enough to hit the road.

After that…who knows?

That’s one of the things we love most about this lifestyle.

Our fall calendar is already beginning to fill up with plans that will take us through Colorado, Oklahoma, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia. It feels like we’re going from a season of waiting to a season of constant movement. As the saying goes—it’s either feast or famine!

Stay Tuned…

There’s another exciting event coming this fall.

Someone very special is celebrating the big 6-0!

The only problem is…he hasn’t decided how he wants to celebrate yet.

Knowing us, it’ll probably involve a road trip, good food, great friends, and making memories somewhere we’ve never been before.

We’ll keep you posted.

Until then, thank you for following along with our adventures. Whether you’re reading from home or somewhere out on the open road, we hope our stories inspire you to take a journey of your own.

Who knows…

Maybe one day our paths will cross, and we’ll share part of the journey together.
