Part 2: Great Wine, Great Friends, and Great Stories
Viansa: Where New Friendships Began
After our relaxing morning at the spa, it was finally time to do what had brought us to Napa Valley in the first place.
Wine tasting.
Our first stop was Viansa Winery, one of our personal favorites.
Originally, we had planned to attend one of Viansa’s famous pizza nights. Unfortunately, it had been canceled for the weekend, but the winery graciously offered complimentary tastings instead.
Sometimes life’s little detours end up becoming unexpected blessings.
As we walked onto the property, I couldn’t help but smile watching everyone take in the incredible views for the first time. The vineyards stretched toward the horizon, and the Tuscan-inspired architecture made it feel as though we had somehow been transported to the Italian countryside.
This was exactly why we wanted to bring our friends here.
Not simply to taste wine…
But to experience Napa.
We wandered the grounds, took more photos than any of us probably needed, and found ourselves lingering on the patio long after our tasting had ended.
Good conversation has a funny way of making time disappear.
More Than Just Wine
One thing we’ve learned over the years is that wineries really aren’t about the wine.
Sure, the wine is wonderful.
But wineries are gathering places.
They’re places where strangers become friends, where stories are shared, and where no one seems to be in much of a hurry.
That’s one of the things we love most about Napa Valley.
Life slows down.
Nobody is watching the clock.
Everyone simply enjoys where they are.
And who they’re with.
Dinner in Sonoma
That evening, we made our way into Sonoma for dinner.
The historic downtown square was alive with people strolling from shop to shop, enjoying the beautiful weather and soaking in the relaxed atmosphere.
It reminded us why wine country is so special.
There’s no rush.
No pressure.
Just great food, wonderful conversation, and the simple pleasure of spending time together.
After dinner, we wandered through town, ducking into a few shops before eventually making our way back to the resort.
Little did we know the next day would become one of everyone’s favorites.
A Day on the Wine Trail
Saturday morning arrived with blue skies and plenty of excitement.
Today wasn’t about visiting just one winery.
Today was our full wine-tasting adventure.
To make the day even more enjoyable—and to ensure everyone could simply relax—we had arranged for a limousine.
Watching everyone climb into the limo with coffee cups in one hand and cameras in the other immediately set the tone for the day.
This wasn’t going to be a rushed tasting schedule.
This was going to be a day of making memories.
V. Sattui Winery
Our first stop was V. Sattui Winery.
If you’ve never visited, it’s unlike many traditional tasting rooms.
It feels more like an Italian marketplace than a winery.
Fresh breads.
Cheeses.
Deli selections.
Picnic supplies.
Pastries.
And, of course…
Outstanding wines.
It would be easy to spend half a day here simply wandering through the marketplace.
After our tasting, we found ourselves exploring every corner before finally gathering outside to enjoy the beautiful grounds.
There wasn’t a single person in our group who wasn’t smiling.
Paraduxx
Next came Paraduxx.
The atmosphere here was completely different.
Modern.
Elegant.
Relaxed.
Paraduxx has always been one of those wineries we enjoy because it feels intimate.
Our tasting host did a wonderful job explaining each wine without making anyone feel intimidated.
Whether someone had been collecting wine for years or was simply learning what they liked, everyone felt welcome.
That’s something we appreciate.
Wine should be fun.
Not complicated.
Duckhorn Vineyards
If Paraduxx felt elegant…
Duckhorn felt timeless.
Beautiful gardens surrounded the tasting area, creating one of the most peaceful settings of the entire weekend.
We found ourselves slowing down even more.
Conversations became quieter.
The pace became slower.
No one seemed anxious to leave.
This is where I realized something.
We weren’t collecting bottles.
We were collecting moments.
Every winery had its own personality.
Every stop had its own memories.
Jerry Steals the Show
Somewhere between wineries, Jerry officially became the entertainer of the day.
Every group trip seems to have that one person who naturally keeps everyone laughing.
This weekend…
That honor belonged to Jerry.
His perfectly timed one-liners, quick wit, and ability to find humor in just about anything had us laughing from one winery to the next.
Sometimes we laughed because the joke was funny.
Sometimes we laughed because Jerry was laughing before he even finished telling it.
Either way, our cheeks were beginning to hurt.
Those are the kinds of people every vacation needs.
Beringer Vineyards
Our final winery of the day was Beringer.
Historic.
Beautiful.
Classic Napa.
The grounds alone are worth the visit.
Massive trees shaded the walkways as we explored one of Napa Valley’s oldest wineries.
It felt like the perfect way to end an incredible day.
By this point, we had tasted some exceptional wines.
Taken countless photos.
Shared hundreds of laughs.
And strengthened friendships that would continue long after the trip ended.
Good wine has a way of bringing people together.
Great friends make it unforgettable.
Home for the Evening
As the limousine carried us back to the resort, the conversation never stopped.
Everyone talked about their favorite winery.
Their favorite wine.
Their favorite story from the day.
Somewhere along the drive, the conversation shifted from wineries to life.
Family.
Dreams.
Travel.
Retirement.
Faith.
Those are my favorite conversations.
The ones that happen when nobody is checking their watch.
Back at the resort, no one was quite ready for the day to end.
So we gathered once again.
Some relaxed around the fire pit.
Others wandered out to the patio.
Several of us eventually found ourselves soaking in the hot tub beneath the stars.
Those evenings became a tradition throughout the weekend.
No schedules….No alarms….No responsibilities.
Just good friends enjoying one another’s company.
As I looked around that evening, I couldn’t help but feel grateful.
Not simply because we were in Napa Valley.
But because we were sharing one of our favorite places with some of our favorite people.
And somehow…
That made this trip even better than all the others.
