Our Genesis Supreme Setup

Our Genesis Supreme Setup

People often ask us what we travel in, and the truth is that our current setup is the result of years of trial and error, upgrades, downsizing, and figuring out what works best for us.

Like many travelers, we didn’t start with a beautiful truck and fifth wheel. We started much simpler. Over the years, we’ve camped under the stars, slept in tents, owned a pop-up camper, traveled in everything from Class C motorhomes to a 45-foot Entegra coach, pulled bumper-pull trailers, and eventually found our way to the fifth-wheel lifestyle. At the time, every move felt like we were “moving up in the world,” but looking back, each change was really about adapting to our lifestyle. Sometimes we needed more room. Sometimes we wanted less. Sometimes we were traveling for weekends, and other times we were spending weeks at a time on the road. Every setup taught us something and helped lead us to where we are today.

The Tow Vehicle

Our current adventure begins with our Ford F-350, a truck we absolutely love.

Ironically, we weren’t even shopping for a truck when we found it. We had taken another vehicle in for service and happened to spot this beautiful F-350 sitting on the lot. It had everything we wanted and then some. We climbed inside, admired all the features, dreamed a little, and then looked at the price tag. Like most people, we quickly realized our dreams and our budget weren’t exactly on the same page.

Before leaving, we told our favorite salesperson that if she ever came across a used truck equipped like this one, to please give us a call.

A month or so later, the phone rang.

She didn’t have a truck similar to the one we’d fallen in love with—she had the exact truck.

As it turned out, the original buyer had purchased it brand new, outfitted it to tow a fifth wheel, taken a single trip, and then experienced a change in life circumstances that required trading it back in. Suddenly, the truck we thought was out of reach was sitting on the lot as a used vehicle with very few miles and a much friendlier price tag.

Sometimes the timing in life just works out.

We’ve taken great care of that truck ever since, and it has taken great care of us. It has hauled us through mountains, deserts, beach towns, and countless campgrounds without missing a beat.

The Genesis Supreme

Our Genesis Supreme fifth wheel joined the family in July of 2024 after we spotted it at an RV show.

Once again, luck seemed to be on our side.

Much like our truck, this RV had been purchased new and then almost immediately traded back in. When we stepped inside, it was obvious that it had barely been used. The paperwork was still tucked inside the oven. Protective tape remained on cabinet edges and stairs. Stickers were still attached to mirrors and fixtures. It felt more like walking into a brand-new RV than a pre-owned one.

The only clue that anyone had ever actually used it was a single tire mark on the rear ramp.

Our theory? Someone purchased the toy hauler, took it home, and quickly discovered that their off-road vehicle didn’t quite fit as planned.

Whatever the reason, it worked out perfectly for us.

The layout fit our travel style, the condition was nearly flawless, and it has quickly become one of our favorite RVs we’ve ever owned. It gives us the comfort of home while allowing us to chase the next adventure wherever the road leads.

The Red Golf Cart

No setup would be complete without our golf cart.

The inspiration actually came from our son and his family, who purchased and customized a six-seat golf cart to take on their own adventures. After seeing how much they enjoyed having one, we started paying attention.

Then, as seems to happen surprisingly often in our lives, timing stepped in once again.

A neighbor posted on our community social media page that he was thinking about selling his golf cart and wanted to offer it to someone in the neighborhood before listing it publicly.

Not only was it exactly what we were looking for, but it was red.

If you’ve spent much time following us, you probably already know that red is our favorite color, so we considered that a sign.

Today, that four-seat golf cart travels with us on many of our adventures and has become one of our favorite additions to our setup. Whether we’re exploring beach towns, cruising through RV resorts, visiting friends, or simply taking a sunset ride around a campground, it always seems to add a little extra fun to the trip.

Our Home on Wheels

When we look at our current setup—the truck, the Genesis Supreme, and the golf cart—we see more than equipment. We see the result of years of adventures, lessons learned, and a few fortunate breaks along the way.

Will this be our forever setup? Probably not. If our travel history has taught us anything, it’s that our needs and preferences will continue to evolve. But for now, this combination gives us everything we need to explore comfortably, travel safely, and create new memories wherever the road takes us.

And if history is any indication, our next great travel upgrade will probably happen when we’re not looking for it at all.
